We’ve all had that shift where you walk into the room and immediately think: “I am not paid enough for this.” These are those stories.

Lap 6 and a Tackle 🏃‍♂️

During Covid, a belligerent male patient decided to leave his room, naked as the day he was born, and he began to run laps around the unit. Screaming at the top of his lungs with his massive appendage flopping in the wind. We called the police, I had started running behind him trying to shepherd him back into the room, but he was much faster than my 4 foot 11 legs could muster while wearing an N95. So instead, I just counted his laps as he ran the circle. At lap six, the police arrived, tackled this man to the ground, which made a squeak as his body slid across the floor I will never forget.

The Seat vs. The Scrotum 🚴‍♂️

The craziest thing I have ever seen is a degloving of a penis from a bike seat. According to the story, the kid put on the brakes and as he did so, the bike went forward…but he didn’t. The bike seat got caught on the scrotum and unfurled the skin all the way to the tip of the penis. Luckily, the kid was able to get to the OR and made a full recovery.

Just Weed, Right? 💊

A guy was getting arrested for cocaine and thought he wouldn’t get charged with possession if he swallowed the drugs. So he swallowed 5 rocks, and the cops dropped him off at the ED doors and let the hospital deal with him. He was intubated for airway protection for a few days and we got to deal with his crazy family in the ICU. They kept saying, “He only does weed, he’s NEVER take his own product!” Lo and behold, when he finally was extubated and sent to med/surg, he aspirated and ended up reintubated and bronched. Eventually we got him extubated again and transferred to the floor.
