Doc Gets Punched 💉
Had a heroin overdose patient who didn't wake up but was breathing after 0.5 mg IV Narcan. We don't need them awake, just need them breathing. Get to the ER and Doc wants him awake. We tell the doc patient is known to be combative, but he is the boss. DOC SLAMS 2 mg NARCAN IV AND IMMEDIATELY GETS PUNCHED BY THE PATIENT. We warned him.

Epidural Meltdown 👶
I was working in L&D and wheeling a laboring Mom from ED into a labor room when she started screaming “Epidural! Epidural now!!!” When I took a quick peek down below, I saw a head. I said “Um, it’s way too late for an epidural. Baby is coming now.” The patient went berserk and started hitting me. Then latched onto my arm and hung there limp and screaming. I had to drag her sorry ass across the labor room to the emergency button which was in between the headboard and fetal monitor tower while this lady hung off me like a baby possum. Another nurse came and she leaped up and punched the nurse in the nose. The next nurse came and she kicked her in the stomach. Then the 3 of us grabbed that lady and tossed her ass in the bed and delivered her baby safely DESPITE her best efforts.

Patient Stashed Cocaine 💊
I was a sitter for a patient under 5150 that was going to expire in the evening. She was angry at me for telling the medical team that she drew crosses on the hospital walls and tried to paint one on my forehead. She charged at me in the hallway in front of the nurse station, grabbed and punched my head several times. Luckily there were nurses in the station but the patient managed to rip out a small chunk of hair. I went to the ED to get checked out and found out she got placed on restraints for dismantling the hospital tv wires, not for harming me. I did try to make a police report, but the cop who took my case discouraged me from pressing charges since she was a "psych patient.

New Protections for ER Staff, Thanks to AB 977 🚨
California Governor Newsom has signed AB 977 into law, giving ER staff the same protections as if they were assaulted outside the hospital. Under this law, anyone who assaults ER staff could face up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
With assaults on ER staff increasing, many healthcare workers are relieved to see these new protections. 🛡️
Some question if this is the right approach, especially when it comes to patients experiencing mental health crises who might not be fully aware of their actions.
What’s your take? Does AB 977 make ERs safer, or could there be better ways to handle violent incidents? Vote below! 🗣️

In response to ”f*ck box” someone commented “Every day I’m surprised, shocked & embarrassed by what patients call parts of their bodies.” 😭😂
