The Hammer-Time 🔨

Once, a family member of a patient came after the staff/other patients/cars in the parking lot with a hammer. One of the other employees tried to lock the main doors to the building so he couldn’t come back in after he left, and she didn’t lock them properly. I went up to the doors and held the bar closed. He tried to open it a few times then raised the hammer to smash the door, we had a staring contest, and he walked away. One of the scariest moments of my life.

The Breast Milk Sampler 🥛

I work in the NICU. We had a patient that was a rainbow baby for mom. This baby eventually got to the point of breast feeding. During this, I propped the baby on mom’s left side. After 15 minutes, I suggested switching to the right side. Five minutes later, I came back to check on her and the baby was back onto the original, left side. I asked mom why she switched back, and she said “Well, dad tried to pull milk out of the right side and couldn’t get any…”

Later, the dad was bottle-feeding the baby. There was about 5-10mL of milk left over, and the dad offered the remaining milk to mom to drink. She replied, “No, I don’t want it—I’m not weird like you.”
