Welcome to another issue of “Is It an Emergency?”—the place where healthcare workers come together to share the wildest, most WTF moments from the ER.
We’ve all had patients claim their pain is 10/10 while texting, munching on snacks, and politely declining meds. But sometimes… you just know they’re telling the truth.

Broken Micro Penis 💔
Former ER nurse - Had a patient come in by EMS on night shift. The call was for an “exploded penis.” Apparently guy was having sex with his mistress (name was cherry), she was on top and right has he was about to climax his penis “exploded” and blood shot up the wall, on the ceiling, and all over her. She basically broke his dick… poor guy because when he got there he was surrounded by 5 female nurses. We pulled the sheet back and all of us audibly said “awww” - dude had a micro penis. Smallest one I’ve ever seen. And he needed surgery to repair his urethra but the guy left AMA because he was scared his wife would find out!
Monster Can Rectal Explosion 🥤
As a perioperative RN, I witnessed a person come in and have a monster energy type drink full and unopened stuck in rectum for a few days. Came to OR to get it out. During extraction which was difficult and everyone is on standby to open him up in case of bowel perforation. The instrument pierced the can and CO2 plus the pressure being exerted caused a fizzy anal juice eruption. I who have seen peoples insides on the outside finally got grossed out yet couldn’t look away.
Mattress Spring in Knee 🦵
We had a lady come on who had had sex while she was on all 4s.. a spring from the mattress shot up through the top of the mattress and coiled up into her knee cap.. she was brought in on half the mattress.. the fire dept cut in half so she could be transported by ambulance .. she came in the ER in the same position she was having sex in!!!
